Glasgow, Scotland, is set to become the global hub for major event stakeholders as the Host City Conference 2024 returns on 3-4th December.
Taking place at the prestigious Technology & Innovation Centre and Glasgow City Chambers, this year’s conference will explore the theme of “Inspiring Action” across global trends, technology, sustainability, and inclusivity in event hosting.
Host City is Europe’s leading conference for leaders involved in hosting major events, attracting a distinguished lineup of speakers, sponsors, and delegates. The two-day event will welcome government officials, rights holders, organisers, and event professionals from across the world.
Driving Innovation and Collaboration
The conference opens on 3rd December with keynote addresses by Susan Deighan, Chief Executive of Glasgow Life, and Vicki Miller, Chief Executive Officer of VisitScotland, setting the stage for a series of thought-provoking panels, presentations, and networking opportunities.
Speakers include representatives of organisers of upcoming events including the 2026 Commonwealth Games, FIFA World Cup, UEFA EURO 2028 and the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Event rightsholders speaking include IOC, CGF, FEI, UIPM, Invictus Games, World Curling, Cirque du Soleil, World Rugby, NFL, FISU and many more, including top music promoters and major congresses.
Destinations on the speaker programme include Florida, West Midlands, Edmonton, Berlin and Liverpool, with many more event hosts attending.

Experts will examine how global trends—such as shifting audience preferences and safety challenges—can shape event strategies to foster positive change. - Technology in Action
The transformative power of technologies like AI and virtual worlds will take centre stage as panellists explore their potential to revolutionise event management, engagement, and legacy. - Sustainability Strategies
As climate concerns grow, this panel will present actionable insights into reducing carbon footprints and maximising event benefits for a greener future. - Social and Cultural Impact
Sessions on social impact and major cultural events will emphasise the role of events in strengthening community connections, enriching societies, and enhancing city identities.
Celebrating Excellence
The conference will also see the launch of the inaugural Host City Awards, recognising outstanding achievements in event hosting and delivery. Winners will be unveiled during the Civic Reception, Host City Dinner, and Awards Ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers on the evening of December 3.
Spotlight on Impacts
On December 4, the focus will shift to long-term impacts with sessions on sustainable city development, international collaboration, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in event governance. The conference will close with a panel on leveraging past experiences for future success, offering practical takeaways for attendees.
Keynote speaker Richard Lochhead MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Business, will open Day Two, underscoring Scotland’s commitment to being a global leader in event hosting and legacy planning.
