FIDE president committed to US market despite ‘provocations’

World Chess Federation (FIDE) president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has declared 2016 to be a “year of chess” in the United States, despite being forced to transfer his financial authority in the country to vice-president Georgios Makropoulos amid sanctions imposed on him regarding alleged ties to Syria.
