THREE-WAY MERGER SET FOR CLUB RUGBY

London Irish, London Scottish and Richmond rugby union clubs are planning a three-way merger according to UK press reports. With Richmond unlikely to meet today's deadline to submit secure refinancing proposals, a merger would make sense not only for the clubs but the professional club's umbrella body, English First Division Rugby (EFDR), who want to reduce the league from 14 to 12 clubs.
